The second Argentinean Congress on International Medical Tourism will be held on June 12 and 13 next at the Holtel the Brick of Buenos Aires. It is organized by the Ministry of Tourism of Argentina through the National Institute of Tourism Promotion (INPROTUR), the Argentinean Chamber of Medical Tourism (CIAPSA) and the Chamber of Tourism of Argentina (CAT).

The Republic of Argentina, or just Argentina, is a country in the South-East expanse of the South American subcontinent. Organized as a representative, federal republic, it comprises 24 political divisions, of which 23 are provinces and one is an autonomous city, Buenos Aires, its capital and the seat of the federal government.

here are festivals and events in Buenos Aires throughout the year, some of them associated to the city's cultural traditions, and others, such as the Books' Fair, reflect its prestige as the seat of international events.

Weather

The latitudinal distribution and topographic variety of Argentina allow for a whole range of climates. In general, the predominant climate is temperate, even when the north of the country has tropical climate and the south of the country has subarctic climate. If Argentinean Antarctica is included, the country also has polar climate. The north of the country has very hot, humid summers, with mild, dry winters. The area is subject to regular droughts. The central part of the country has hot summers with rain and thunderstorms, and mild winters. The southern areas have warm summers and cold winters with a great deal of snow, especially in the mountains. The highest areas in all latitudes experience the coldest conditions, with arid climate in the mountains.

Passport

Valid passport, with or without a visa, according to the country of origin. The maximum stay in the country allowed by consular offices is ninety (90) days, which may be extended for the same period only once. Stay extension is applied for with the National Migrations Office (Dirección Nacional de Migraciones). This should take place before the first stay has expired.

Population

Argentina's current population is over 42 million people, almost half of which live in the City and the Province of Buenos Aires. People per square kilometer amount to 14.

Language

The official language of Argentina is Spanish, and differs from the other Latin American variants in the pronunciation of some words. Many of the immigrant communities have preserved their mother tongue and there are at least 17 aboriginal languages.

Currency

The official currency of Argentina is the Argentinean Peso. There are $100, $50, $20, $10, $5 and $2 notes and $2.00, $1.00 and 50, 25, 10 cent coins.

Even when US dollars and euros are generally welcome, foreign currency may be exchanged at banks and exchange offices. The passport is required to exchange money. American Express, VISA, Diners and Master Card are welcome.

The exchange rate in Argentina is convenient for foreign tourists. Tourists may also request the reimbursement of the Value-Added Tax (VAT) paid for items bought at stores with the VAT Reimbursement notice: Tax Free.

To get the reimbursement , all bills or tickets should be kept and a form needs to be completed. On the day of departure, tourists have to go to the Information Booths at the airport.
